Programme Overview
The Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science & Engineering is MIT's largest and most competitive
programme. It follows the AKTU outcome-based curriculum, extended with department electives that we revise
every year in consultation with our recruiting partners — which is why topics like containerisation, MLOps
and system design entered the syllabus before they appeared in the university model curriculum.
The structure is deliberate. The first year builds mathematical and programming fundamentals for a cohort
that mostly arrives from Hindi-medium schooling. Years two and three go deep into the core — data
structures, operating systems, databases, networks, theory of computation. The fourth year is largely
project and industry work: a six-month internship, a capstone build, and electives chosen by
specialisation track.
Every CSE student graduates having shipped at least three working systems — a mini-project, a
capstone and one internship deliverable — not just a folder of lab records.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. The majority of each intake writes their first line of code here. The
bridge course and first-semester programming lab assume zero background, and tutorial groups are
capped at 20 students so nobody is left behind.
Recommended from year two, but not mandatory. The programming lab has 120
terminals and the project studio stays open until 10 PM. Students who need a machine can apply for
the institute's interest-free laptop instalment scheme.
Branch change is possible at the end of year one under AKTU rules, subject
to your first-year CGPA and seat availability. CSE is the most requested branch, so the effective
cut-off is high — usually a CGPA above 8.5.
The semester-eight internship is a curriculum requirement and the
placement cell places every eligible student, though not always at their first-choice company.
Students who prefer to build their own product may substitute an approved MIT-Ignite incubation
project.
